Think About the Math

Student: Wow, Libby, everyone is dressed in really bright colors.  This must remind you of your teenage years in the eighties.

Libby: How old do you think I am?!?

On Helping Pregnant/Parenting Students with Health Class
Student: Libby, what are some misconceptions teens have about how they can get pregnant?
Me: Um, well, um....people think if you do it some ways you can't get pregnant...um.
Student: Libby, I've had a baby. We don't have to dance around the subject.
Teaching seminars on science fiction short stories and gender in popular media this semester.

3 girls in each seminar, and I can do what I want as long as it aligns with some state standards.  Yahtzee!  Really, really excited.

So. Frustrating.

I’m tutoring a Bengali family in English and math, and it’s the best gig ever.

Why?

They are adorable (I’m mainly tutoring a woman and her 71-year-old father-in-law), and they feed me rôshogolla.  They also were SO excited when they found out I could handle Texas-spicy instead of just Minnesota-spicy.  Private tutoring is pretty sweet…literally.

This is one that I’m still processing.  I think there are many good points in here (mainly, what do we want the schools to teach our kids and what are the most important things for our children to know by the time they graduate), but maybe attacking gardening programs was a little misguided.

And right when I’m applying, too!

Argh.

Scholar Ladies (Get an A On It).

AWESOME.
